There seems to be no limit to the exponential growth in the popularity and the number of consumers of the famed P90X system which in turn has led to a lot of questions about the various aspects of this program.

One of the most commonly asked questions is about the need for the use of supplements with the P90X program.

So let s talk about this topic in order to give you some information about what you will need to get better health and physique and also to do away with some of the popular myths.

The typical query that most health and fitness seekers have involves the use of whey proteins and how much protein is needed. The P90X program is based on the principle of muscles challenges and challenging the cardiovascular system. so the goal of this program is to increase your metabolism and this will consequently increase your caloric requirements. But do you really need to supplement this need with added proteins to get results with the P90X?

Some people go as far to suggest that you need 1 gram of protein per pound pf lean body mass. This would equate to 130 to 150 grams of protein if your weight is around 150 pounds.

And you would be overdoing the protein requirement of you consume so much of it. So, the answer is no , if you diet is healthy and well balanced you don t need added proteins.

The protein is used by your body to nourish the muscular system and other physiological functions of the body. However, it is the quality of the protein more than the quantity that makes a difference. The normal American diet contains more than the daily requirement of protein.

So a balanced healthy diet eliminates the need for additional proteins besides a healthy diet provides ample of variety and you can get your daily requirements of 80 grams of protein through such a meal plan.

Protein when supplied in excess is not processed by the body; it is either stored as fats or purged through the system either way it would be waste. So consuming 200 grams of protein through a shake will not help you but it may give you cramps and constipation.

However, for some reason if you diet lacks the necessary food items which are rich sources of protein like fish, dairy products, soy, veggies, eggs and nuts then you may want to consider option for protein supplements.

So if you want to get your daily does of protein eat lots raw veggies such as carrots, spinach, Broccoli and Brussel sprouts and also fruits such as bananas, grapes, apples and oranges and other such healthy fruits.

Unfortunately, many people carry the false perception that the quantity if the nutrients is more important than the quality. This simply means that you don t really need more than your required daily dosage of proteins to get amazing results with the P90X program.

Even though, excess protein does not cause health complications but you may be disappointed with the results that you get if your protein consumption exceeds your bodily requirements. For instance,

If your protein consumption is too high, the body will not be able to process the protein and this may lead to some unwanted results such as:

The frequent need to urinate because excess proteins are purged from the body through urine so essentially you will peeing all that expensive protein away.

Also, the protein that is not flushed away from the system will be stored in the form of fats leading to weight gain or stunted weight loss.

Last and a grave side effect of excess protein is the loss of calcium from the bones which in turn can lead to ailments such as arthritis and osteoporosis. The body needs a specific enzyme to break down the protein when there is excessive protein in take, the body may start using calcium from the bones to create the additional enzyme needed to digest the proteins.

So if you are still wondering about the 150 to 200 grams of protein that you are consuming each day, I would recommended that you stop immediately.

The ideal diet should include the following ratio range of carbs, proteins and fats:

50/35/15 to 55/30/15. This should be your daily consumption of calories from these three nutrients.

If your diet does not include a lot of food items which contain protein which normally happens with vegetarians you don t necessarily have to take up meat, in this case whey proteins can be used to meet the daily protein requirements.

But if you are an omnivore and your diet contains of a healthy mix of veggies and fruits with meat, fish, chicken, eggs and dairy products you have nothing to worry about because your food will give you all the protein that you need.

The best way would be to not concentrate on just one source of protein, like the supplements instead an ideal approach would be to look for a couple of sources like raw organic veggies, lean meats and lots of fruits.

Water also plays an extremely important role in your fitness plan, so don t forget to drink at last 2 quarts of water each day.
